There are various accommodation options for retirees to consider, when embarking on the journey into retirement village living. Some retirees may choose independent living units which are known as ILU’s. Others, may due to their age and health may opt for and be more suited to an assisted living unit. Some Villages offer little or minimal care whilst others will offer a wide range of care and have nursing staff on site 24 hours a day.
Independent living units are the first and most common option for retirees and over 55’s and are perfect for seniors who just want a smaller home but less worry about maintenance, more security, and community living with access to great facilities on their doorstep. Units are usually one or two bedrooms with a full kitchen and living area. Some may even have a small yard, courtyard, or balcony. Independent living is what most people envisage when they think of retirement living and are exactly what the title says, you live independently, you cook your own meals, choose to cleaning your home or pay a cleaner and you be involved with the village community as much or as little as you wish.
The alternative option an assisted living unit. These units whilst still having the essence of an independent living, they involve assistance through the provision of various services to make your life comfortable and safe. Residents will usually eat in a communal dining room or if needs be have meals delivered to your unit. The units generally will have a kitchenette and you will provide your own breakfast and snacks. Residents may receive assistance with cleaning, changing linen, washing clothes, personal care and maintenance of the unit.
