Keeping the Mind and Body Active
Embrace the opportunity to learn new skills and foster a sense of belonging by joining our community. Whether you’re still working or have spare hours in your week, it’s never too late to engage your brain cells and keep your body active. At Kingston SE, we have a group of dedicated women who founded Kingston SE Small Steps, a remarkable initiative aimed at reducing waste and fostering friendships through upcycling pre-loved fabric.
Thanks to grants from local and regional organizations, our dedicated volunteers have obtained the necessary equipment and sewing notions to bring their creative vision to life.
Being Creative With Upcycling
Through upcycling donated fabric, our talented volunteers meticulously craft shopping, wine bottle, and produce bags. These eco-friendly creations are then donated to local businesses, reducing the reliance on single-use plastics. From supermarkets to takeaway food shops, pharmacies to gift stores, around 80% of retail businesses in Kingston now proudly distribute these upcycled bags.
29,000+ Environmentally Friendly Re-usable Bags Created
Every Monday, our volunteers gather at the recreation center of Kingston Retirement Village, sharing stories and engaging in the sew-cial sessions where they cut, sew, and assemble these remarkable bags.
